REVIEW- Heartless by: Marissa Meyer

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

Goodreads-Heartless by: Marissa Meyer

Guys.

Guys

I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sad right now. What the even heck, I totally thought that I would like this book. I thought I would flail around and start to scream when the ending happened.  I thought that I’d love it as much as the Lunar Chronicles.

Unfortunately, none of this happened.

All I got was heartache when this book ended. (See the pun I made there)

One of the things I went into this book expecting, was that it would be like the casual Marissa Meyer book. Young. Female protagonist wanders through a world forced to do something she doesn’t want to do and end up defying all odds fighting against everything in her path. (With the occasional hint of mystery)  Unfortunately, the book was lacking in the mystery and defying all odds  department, which I consider a MUCH NEEDED ingredient to a good book. With the lack of mystery and a ton of pouting, it made reading this feel BORING and at times made me want to do homework instead of wasting my time reading something I clearly wasn’t enjoying.

The plot was SOOOOOO boring. Especially coming from something like The Lunar Chronicles, where the plot was so rich and different and plentiful.  If the whole plot of Heartless could be summarized in a single sentence, I’d say this.

This story follows a whiny baby baker girl who’s too scared of her parents to admit that she DOESN’T want to become the Queen.

That’s it. No surprises, no nothing.

Plus, I was super confused about the whole world and how NOTHING was explained. Why could Cath’s dreams become reality? Why did this book spend half the time talking about baking? What did the King see in Cath to propose to her anyway? I SWEAR, If the only reason that King liked Cath was for her baking I’ll chop off his own head.

Near the end, we are starting to see Cath change from herself, to well… The personality flip at the end with Cath was TOO sudden. In one whole day Cath changes from an amazing sugar cookie to……

Overall I was SUUUPPPPEEERRR bored with this book and would recommend you skip over it, unless you’re a super fan of Wonderland.

Review-Winter by: Marissa Meyer

cooltext133089402245467 Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

cooltext133089343094800 Okay did anyone else think they wouldn’t like this book a lot because of the little snippet and the end of Cress? I for sure did but I ended up being really surprised at how good this book ended! I love this series so much,  Words cannot describe my love for it! I actually did a review for the first book Cinder (I’ll link that below) DISCLAIMER: Cinder was my first ever review, and it sucked so if you would like to just go straight to Goodreads I would prefer you do that. But if you’re in a laughing mood go right on ahead! Anyway back to the review. I ended up loving this book way more than I was anticipating! I loved that as you were reading through the book you’d be coming up with theories for the end, and then a huge plot twist would come and destroy all of them! For those who have not read the series I’d pitch it to you as Fantasy + Terminator + Star Wars.

cooltext133089378843909Well I have to admit that sometimes I’d  just keep on thinking when does it end, but then a plot twist would come and would make this book amazing again!

Cinder by: Marissa Meyer

This is basically a sci-fi version of the cinderella story that we all know. Where society looks down upon Androids and basically anything mechanical.

There is a strange plague called letumosis that is basically a sci-fi futuristic version of Ebola. Everyone who develops signs of the plague are shipped away by society to basically just go and die there because there is no cure. Oh and did I forget to mention there are people on the moon called The Lunars that have strange powers and don’t develop the plague. Meanwhile on earth 16-year old Cinder is 36% cyborg and is adopted by some random lady named Adri. It basically follows the same plot of the cinderella story but with a twist. One of the sister’s Peony develops the plague and is unfortunately the nice one in the family. She is shipped away and the one thing on Cinder’s mind is to find a cure for Peony and for the human race.

Will Cinder find the cure In time? Will she realize her true path and overcome what people say about Androids. Find out in amazing journey that leaves you breathless and waiting for more!
