Review-Mistborn by: Brandon Sanderson

Hey guys,

This book is honestly my favorite book in the entire universe. Everything’s just so amazing about it and it is honestly the best book I have encountered while on my reading journey. I read this forever ago way back in 6th grade, so a few weeks ago I decided I needed to  do a re-read and introduce this to my brother who’s also in 6th grade to get him back into reading, and the cool part is, that it worked! Anyway let’s stop this mumbo jumbo and  start this review!

In a world where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, an evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. The future of the empire rests on the shoulders of a troublemaker and his young apprentice. Together, can they fill the world with color once more?

In Brandon Sanderson’s intriguing tale of love, loss, despair and hope, a new kind of magic enters the stage — Allomancy, a magic of the metals.

 (American Version  /   UK Version)

cooltext133089343094800 Words cannot express the love I have for this book. The characters are so likable and you don’t realize how much you love them, before something terrible happens. Brandon Sanderson is one of those authors that play with your emotions and ALWAYS comes up with the most amazing plot twists and because he somehow get’s you to love these characters without even realizing it. I loved the idea for this book, it’s so original and fun and amazing! The Setting is just so interesting and different that you love it for that. This is totally a High Fantasy Novel. He really get’s you immersed into his writing and his worlds! I have not liked any of the series he’s ever released and that’s what I love about him. This story is a Street Urchin named Vin, who lives in a world where there is a tyrant called the Lord Ruler. There was this huge fight against the Darkness that fought the land and somehow The Lord Ruler won. The world is in a wreck from the great fight and so there are ash mounts and other crazy things. But the Lord Ruler has never died, and that was thousands of years ago, he’s been stabbed, punched, kicked, and had his head cut off but he always heals himself. Some say that the Lord Ruler is god. But Vin knows different, The Lord Ruler can be killed, and only Vin can find out how.

Well I have to admit that the pacing was a little slow, but was easily renewed for the second half of the book. Overall this book is amazing, glorious, and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy!

A possible prologue for Elsewhere?

Hey guys,

So I’ve been writing, and  I decided I want to follow the NaNoWriMo format for my story. Write 50K in one month, let’s do this thing.  Then I looked on my website and saw one of my goals was to release a sneak peek for Elsewhere. So let’s do this thing too, I guess. Keep in mind that this is just a first draft and nothing is final or perfect, so if you have any constructive criticism please leave a comment below and I would love to see your input.

Well without further ado, here we are the first prologue for Elsewhere is sort of here!

Galorin walked pulled out his sword from his leather sheath. This was it, this was the battle he’d been preparing for the past couple years. He was done with having a dictator from the Coastillan line. Galorin stared at his apprentice, his son, and his friend. Or at least was all of those things one time or another.
He wiped his long, gray hair, and held his sword, ready to fight.
“Father how many times have I asked you to put up with this foolish nonsense and come and join the crown.” King Coastillan sighed slowly walking across the room.
Galorin glared at him and huffed. “You know very well why I have never accepted that offer. You have become a dictator, the crown has poisoned you as had me. Now it is time for you to step down and help me create an independent nation or you will be removed.”
King Coastillan nodded. “Removed, “ he said blowing his long black hair to the side, “You mean more like killed!”
“If it need be.” Galorin replied.
“Then I guess that you’ll just have to get on with that, after I have you dead I’ll bury you next to my puny brother who forced me to step in his place.”
Galorin cringed. “You take that back now!”
“Never!” King Coastillan yelled as he gnashed his teeth. He drawled out his sword and lunged.
Galorin held his sword blocking the first blow.
He pulled back, raising his sword above his head and striking down, determined to destroy the dictator of Aconite. The dictator he was before he stepped down from the throne, and the dictator Aconite didn’t deserve. Galorin new he was old, he knew he wouldn’t win, and he knew he couldn’t make the King change. But he could try.
King Coastillan blocked the weak attempt of a swing and laughed.
“It’s really quite funny watching you play with your sword, you act as if you’ve never seen one.” King Coastillan turned his sword in a circle knocking Galorin’s sword out of his hand. The king rested his sword at the point of Galorin’s neck.
“Join me?” King Coastillan asked.
Galorin closed his eyes and sighed. “Never.”
King Coastillan scoffed. “I was afraid it would come to this but never the a lass everyone has their day to die, your’s is just sooner that you thought.”
King Coastillan stabbed Galorin, with his knife, and pulled out.
Galorin’s eyes became droopy. I must pick and heir! he thought. He closed his eyes imagining a girl, her hair as sleek and as red as a fox’s pelt. He smiled, she was the heir.
Gallorin’s white tunic started to turn red.
He fell to the ground as Kind Coastillan turned, leaving his Father to die in his throne room.
Galorin’s eyes widened.
He was as ready for death as was death ready for him.
Everything would turn out fine in the end.
Galorin closed his eyes and sighed.
Finally he had a break from all the fighting.

That was it! Did you like it? Do you want more? Comment below and tell me how I did!

CLOSED-Author Interview: Mandi Lynn + Giveaway!

Hey Guys!

I  hope you all have had a wonderful new year so far! So to jazz up this new year I interviewed Mandi Lynn, a teenage author and she graciously said she would provide an E-book giveaway with one of her books. But first here’s a little bit about Mandi,

mandi lynn

Mandi Lynn started writing her first novel at thirteen, and at the young age of seventeen,Essence, hit the press. Since publishing her debut novel, Lynn has taught writing workshops, appeared on television, newspapers, and most importantly, graduated high school. While attending college, Lynn works part time at a salon as a stylist and continues to write future novels. Lynn can be found online creating YouTube videos about books, publishing, and all things reading.

Q. What made you want to be a writer?
I used to hate reading when I was younger because every month my school required us to take a quiz on a book we read. It wasn’t until I discovered the YA genre that I fell in love with reading and wanted to create my own stories.

Q.When did you finish your first draft/ how long was it?
My first draft for Essence was finished a year after I had started writing it but it was only about 40,000 words, which is about 160 pages. Obviously the book is now 330 pages so it’s been through a lot of rewriting.

Q. Describe your book(s) in one sentence.
Essence: A young girl is taken away from her family, left to watch over her family as they mourn over her supposed death.
I am Mercy: The Black Plague has arrived in France and the only way for Luna to survive is to delve into black magic, whether she knows what it is or not.

Q. Favorite movie?
Well Hunger Games of course!

Q. Any funny/cool things happen since you became a Teen Author?
I was in the elevator at college to get to my dorm room and the girl in the elevator recognized me, not by seeing me on campus, but by the sound of my voice from one of YouTube videos.

Q. What was your time frame for writing Essence?
I have a tendency to write a lot for a month or so, but my novels down for another few months, than write them again for another few months. I hate my process because I wish I could just write it all at once, but it seems I work best in bursts.

Q. What is your all time favorite YA author?

Laurie Halse Anderson. Every time I read something by her I just wish I could write like her!

Q. What projects are you working on writing?
I have started writing a third book, though the process has been going extremely slow because of how busy I am at the time. I do hope to finish and publish it if it’s good enough!

Q. What do you think one of your secrets to success is?
Persistence. Success is a slow process; the only way to get there is to always keep trying.

Q. What are some things you have liked being a Teen Author?
The emails I get from my readers. They make my day and remind me why I write and publish.

Q. Any Writing advice?
Write like no one will ever read your words.
