Review- Calamity by: Brandon Sanderson

When Calamity lit up the sky, the Epics were born. David’s fate has been tied to their villainy ever since that historic night. Steelheart killed his father. Firefight stole his heart. And now Regalia has turned his closest ally into a dangerous enemy.

David knew Prof’s secret, and kept it even when Prof struggled to control the effects of his Epic powers. But facing Obliteration in Babilar was too much. Once the Reckoners’ leader, Prof has now embraced his Epic destiny. He’s disappeared into those murky shadows of menace Epics are infamous for the world over, and everyone knows there’s no turning back. . .

But everyone is wrong. Redemption is possible for Epics—Megan proved it. They’re not lost. Not completely. And David is just about crazy enough to face down the most powerful High Epic of all to get his friend back. Or die trying.

Anybody notice a particular theme in finale books? Finale books tend to suck. For those who are new to the YA realm, trilogies tend to go like this.
1st book: LOVE THIS SO MUCH AND WANNA DIE!
2nd book: Was really good and wanna continue even though it wasn’t as good.
3rd book: SUCKED…….
Now I know what some of you are thinking. But I read this and loved it! Or, I read that and freaked out about how good it was. THIS IS JUST A RULE OF THUMB. Or, more commonly known as the “Final book Curse”. Deep in my heart I thought that Brandon could go against all of the odds and deliver an amazing book that is promised to be better than both the first. Instead, my reaction was like the gif below.
I felt that the first book’s villan, Steelheart was way harder to beat than Calamity. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? The book explains that Calamity is like 1000 times stronger than any strong Epic. (Bad Superhero) And yet, there is no fight. the plot twist is predictable, and the book isn’t even focused on Calamity. CALAMITY IS A SIDE CHARACTER!
Also, I felt that they never really explained what Calamity’s main power was. Even when the book gave an ok description of what is was. I was like.
But, the fight with Prof, was great. One of the reasons that I love Brandon’s work so much is because of the fight scenes. They are partly the reason why I read so many of Brandon’s books. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ A BRANDON SANDERSON BOOK I HIGHLY SUGGEST IT!
The fight scenes in books one and two are AMAZING! Book three was PURE AMAZING! While I was a fan of the ending I did feel that through this book David was too invincible, like he could never be hurt or wounded, And even when he did get hurt he had the healing machine thing -a-ma-bob to heal them.
Overall, If I knew what I knew know I still would have read this finale. It was an ok end so if you were to remember anything from this post, it would be that you DON’T go into this book with high expectations.
