Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.
One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.
The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.
When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.
Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die
Man this book was good, but the one thing that bothered me was Magnus’s voice. Rick Riordan decided to switch from 2nd person back to 1st person. It helped get into the mind of Magnus a ton, But I just felt that it sounded too much like Magnus, I feel like we need a distinction between the characters other than there looks, I feel like they need to sound a little different maybe Magnus could have been more serious? I don’t know, but I really liked this main lead, I felt like he made a strong start to a new series and feel like Magnus’s commentary was much-needed.
I really thought this book was good, at first when I saw this book I was like, AGAIN! Another Mythology book! But I was really excited for it cause hey, this is Rick Riordan were talking about, he’s amazing! I really loved this book, Ever since The Blood of Olympus I feel like everyone was suffering from “Percy Withdrawal” and I felt like this was a solid start to a series and defiantly lived up to its praise. While the character sounds like Percy, I highly enjoyed this beginning. I especially loved the Cameos that came up in this book from the other series he has written. The story was rich, the characters were funny, and the book is defiantly living up to the praise.
Well like I said earlier I felt like the voice sounded a little too much like Percy, but overall this book was a solid start to a new series.
