Enter Atolas, a world where swords and daggers both extend life and end it, where magic is feared by all but a few, and where feuds and friendships influence kingdoms and courtships. Henry and Isabelle have secretly sworn to marry despite his lowly station. Though Henry is but a carpenter, his devotion drives him to commit an unthinkable act that may cost both of them their lives. At the same time, a secret, dark prophecy has set in motion events that will affect not only them, but the thrones of rulers throughout all of Atolas, threatening to eclipse the world in shadow. But all is not lost while hope remains in the guise of an unlikely hero and the strength of friendship.
To start of for this section I thought Jacob Gowan did a pretty good job with his wide variety of characters. There is one character I wish he’d mention more AKA Maggie. But…… But I think I am liking Henry the best so far in this series. His honorable self as well as him always doing the right thing is pretty cool. I hope that some of that rubs off on me… (:
First Off, Wow what a read. To start of straight I really liked Jacob’s writing style, it’s different an less common than other books that I know of but still It was a good different. Next I really appreciate the story. Oh an by the way the END THE END!!! Oh I nearly fell on the ground, that was my favorite part of the entire book! Looking back at the beginning I wasn’t really interested and this book didn’t start of with a BANG! If you know what I’d mean but after a while you can connect the pieces and be like, Hey I remember that!
At times I didn’t really like the slowness at some parts and I felt like at one of the parts it just wouldn’t pick itself up and be the awesome book that it is. But after a while I found that it would start flowing again and then you would have no problem with this book until the next drag. THIS IS NOT A FAST BOOK! This book will take time, But if you have the time I would say that you should give this book a try!
3.5 out of 5 stars.
And for the second!

Summary: Henry Vestin always believed that, despite being a carpenter with no training in swordplay or survival, he could lead Isabelle and his friends to safety. He thought he could defy an emperor and protect Isabelle from harm. He was certain that love and friendship would help them survive.
He was wrong.
The second volume in the Tale of Light and Shadow series follows Henry and his friends after the disastrous battle at the Iron Pass. Horrors await the band of travelers in strange new lands. Crippled and broken, Henry must rely on his friends more than ever. New allies and foes find them at every turn, but which are friendly and which are deadly? Isabelle, now a slave in Neverak, finds herself surrounded by enemies, uncertain about the fate of her friends, and relying on only herself to survive. The Emperor moves forward with his plans of conquest, spurred on by the Seer’s dark prophecy, but he has not forgotten those who defied him.
Return to the world of Atolas, where swords and daggers extend life or end it, where feuds and friendships influence kingdoms and courtships, and where magic is feared by all but a few.
Characters: Wow! What an awesome ride! I loved that Jacob did what I wanted! More Maggie! So my favorite in these books so far right now is Maggie or maybe James. I really loved that he expanded on Maggie and her “specialness” it’s pretty cool. I also liked how we got to find more out about Henry in this book! If you have not read a Tale of Light and Shadow click the link at the top of this page!
What I liked: Ah Man what a freaking awesome adventure. Uh what is it with Jacob Gowans and his real good endings? seriously this book had me on the ropes! I especially enjoyed the dice part in this book. “Read the book and you will totally get it! (: I also enjoyed this book overall it was a pretty good read and I think that most readers will thoroughly enjoy this read! Oh and I almost forgot to mention the Cecilia thing! Woah!! This all made sense now. When we got the Vreagen part I was a little confused but after that It made total sense!
What I didn’t Like: Well Just like book one in this series this book kinda dragged in between parts. I wouldn’t recommend this for people who are just getting into reading. I would totally recommend this to anyone who is an experienced reader!
